TRIP OVERVIEW:

Our most popular summer offering, the Sunrise Summit 2-Day Mt. Fuji Tour will give you ample time to pursue the top of Fuji. After a long hike the first day, the group enjoys a hot dinner and rests overnight in a mountain hut at either 3,400 meters (8th station) or 3,200 meters (7th station). Awaking before dawn, you’ll continue the climb up Mt. Fuji in order to reach the peak in time for the sunrise.

This trip is led by English-speaking guides dedicated to getting you from Tokyo to the top of Mt. Fuji and back to Tokyo.

It follows the Subashiri trail for a less crowded and more local experience, with the option of staying at either an 8th station or 7th station mountain hut.

TRIP ITINERARY (8th Station)

Day 1: Meetup and Transfer

Meet at Tochomae Station in Tokyo or Gotemba Station near Mt. Fuji (your choice). The tour will leave promptly at the published departure time of 6:45 a.m. from Tochomae Station and 8:30 a.m. from Gotemba Station.

We’ll depart Tokyo by private charter bus, making our way to the Subashiri 5th station via Gotemba Station and our FMG Base Camp Cafe. Beginning our climb at 2,000 meters, we will follow the Subashiri trail up to 3,400 meters, where we will rest and lodge for the night.  A hot dinner of Japanese curry rice is provided by our mountain hut.

Day 2: Summit and Transfer

Awake before dawn and continue our climb up in the dark, lighting the path with headlamps. After a 1.5-hour climb to the summit, we will watch the sunrise from Japan’s highest peak.

Time is allotted for purchasing souvenirs, taking pictures and, weather permitting, an optional climb around the crater. After celebrating our summit and eating a hot breakfast, the group will descend back to the Subashiri 5th station and return to Tokyo via Gotemba Station.

*Please note: if a guest is unable to arrive at the 5th station in time for the scheduled bus departure, they will be responsible for the additional cost of taking a public bus or train from Gotemba to Tokyo. We do not recommend scheduling airline flights for the same day as your decent from Mt. Fuji.

PACKING LIST

Climbing Equipment

In order to enjoy a safe hike to the summit of Mount Fuji, it is crucial to bring the proper equipment. Some of the most important things to bring are listed below:

Proper Shoes

The rocky, steep terrain in some sections and the potential for sudden, strong wind gusts are reasons to bring proper hiking shoes which protect your ankles.
Proper Clothes Bring proper protection against low temperatures and strong winds. It can be below zero at the summit, and strong winds often make it even colder. Bring rain gear, as weather conditions can change very quickly on the mountain. Gloves are recommended both against the cold and for hiking the steep, rocky passages.

Flashlight

If you hike at night, a flashlight is highly recommended in any season and essential outside of the peak season when the trail is not illuminated by other hikers. Most people choose head lamps, as they leave both of your hands free.

Food

It is important to bring enough water and food, particularly on the trails where there are several mountain huts along the way. Mountain huts offer various meals and drinks; however, note that prices increase with the altitude. Also, be prepared to carry home all your garbage as there are no public garbage bins on the mountain.

Money

Cash is necessary to buy provisions on the mountain such as water or canned oxygen and to use the toilets along the way. It is also important to carry should you need to seek emergency shelter in one of the mountain huts.

Hiking Stick (optional)

While not crucial, many hikers purchase wooden hiking sticks at the 5th Station to aid in their climb up the mountain.

LODGING

Fujisan Hotel | 8th Station | 3,400m

Fujisan Hotel is located at 3,400 meters at the original 8th Station. This mountain hut is located just over an hour from the summit of Mt. Fuji and marks the final crux on the trail to Japan’s highest point.

Huts on Mt. Fuji were originally built as shelter from harsh mountain conditions and offer simple dorm-style accommodation. Accommodations consist of a bunk, bedding, sleeping bag, and pillow, all Japanese-style.

Fujisan Hotel offers a fantastic cultural experience unique to Mt. Fuji and is a great way of meeting fellow climbers, exchanging stories, and experiencing camaraderie you will never find in a five-star hotel!

FOOD

The Sunrise Summit 2-day Mt. Fuji Tour – 8th Station includes one dinner on Day 1 (hot Japanese curry rice) and one breakfast on Day 2 (various noodle/rice bowl options) served by a mountain hut. Mountain huts only serve Japanese food such as curry rice, noodles, udon, miso soup, etc., so if you’re not able to eat Japanese food, we ask that you buy food before the hike and bring it up with you. A vegetarian option is available for dinner on Day 1.

You will need to provide two lunches on your own. Lunch on Day 1 will be partway through our climb and can be purchased and eaten at one of the mountain huts located along the trail. Lunch on Day 2 will be eaten at a mountain hut following the descent, where many rice bowls, noodle, vegetarian, and meat-lover options are available. You will need to pack snacks for each day of your climb.
