Explore Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, in western Mongolia a great adventure into the Mongolian wilderness with the nomads. These are a mountain range in Central and East Asia, where Russia, China, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan come together, and where the rivers Irtysh and Ob have their headwaters. The massif merges with the Sayan Mountains in the northeast, and gradually becomes lower in the southeast, where it merges into the high plateau of the Gobi Desert.

DETAILED ITINERARY:

Day 1. Arrive to Ulaanbaatar capital of Mongolia. (D)

Arrive to Chinggis Khaan International airport. Meet by your guide at the airport and from the airport we will drive and stop to the Zaisan Memorial. The Zaisan Memorial is a memorial in the southern area of the Mongolia capital of Ulaanbaatar that honors allied Mongolian and Soviet soldiers killed in World War II. Great panoramic view of the capital city of Mongolia. Right after the monument we transfer to the hotel. Do check in and rest at the hotel until the dinner time. We will have dinner at the traditional Mongolian restaurant. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2. Exploring Ulaanbaatar(translates as: Red Hero in English) : Capital of Mongolia.B+L+D

Today  we will explore the city center: Visiting central square, History Museum of Mongolia, shopping at the world’s biggest cashmere shop visiting the historical sights and religious monasteries. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 3. Fly to Western Mongolia drive to ATB NP-  2,5 hours flight, 170 km, 6 hours drive. B+L+D

Early flight to Ulgii, after early lunch we drive to Tavan Bogd National Park. Along the way, we will find numerous petroglyphs and Turkic stones and picnic lunch. Bayan-Ulgii is rich in archaeological remains, as a reminder of the Bronze Age and the time of the Huns and Turkic invasions. Reach to Ger camp. Overnight in Kazakh or Mongolian ger. B+L+D

Day 4. Horseback riding to Altai Tavan Bogd massif . B+L+D

Today we do a full day horse riding(a total of 20km round trip) and during the horse ride we can see the glaciers and Tavan Bogd massif. Tavan Bogd means “The Holy Five”, referring to the five highest peaks, of which Huiten Uul is the highest in Mongolia, 4374 meters above sea level. There we see 20km long Potanina glacier – the biggest of the twenty glaciers in Mongolian Altai. Overnight in yurts.

Day 5. Twin Lake Area of Altai Tavan Bogd NP- 130km drive, 4-5 hours. B+L+D

Today we drive to Twin lake area. We will pitch our camp near to Nomadic family. We are now only 30 km from the Chinese border. We see the snowcapped mountains with forest, which make the wall between China and Mongolia and do some hiking to the beautiful waterfalls. Overnight in yurt.

Day 6. Day with nomads at the Twin lake area. B+L+D

A day with nomads. You will see the real nomadic way of life of Mongolian nomads. Also, we see the snowcapped mountains with forest, which make the wall between China and Mongolia and hike to explore beautiful Baga Turgen waterfall as well as to see the ancient stone curved pictures at Biluut. All this things and activities will be around the twin lakes. Overnight in yurt.

Day 7. Drive back towards Ulgii city and arrive at Eagle Hunters Family-130 km drive, 5hour drive.  B+L+D

Drive back towards Ulgii and arrive to Kazakh Eagle hunter’s family at the South River camp. See the magnificent eagles and learn about eagle-hunting. Eagle-hunters typically use female birds because they are bigger, stronger, and more aggressive than their male counterparts. Hunters typically keep their birds for 10 years before releasing them back into the wild.  Overnight in Kazakh yurt with shower.

Day 8. Flight back to UB city and drive to see Chinggis Khan equestrian statue. B+L+D

Early breakfast and transfer to airport. After arriving to Ulaanbaatar, we drive to Chinggis Khan equestrian statue at Tsonjin Boldog. Chinggis Khan equestrian statue is a 40-metre tall statue of Genghis Khan on horseback, on the bank of the Tuul river at Tsonjin Boldog,(54 km east of UB), where according to legend, he found a golden whip. The statue is symbolically pointed east towards his birthplace. By the evening drive back to Ulaanbaatar and dinner at traditional Mongolian restaurant.

Day 9. Departure back to home country. End of the trip!

During the trip:

Transportation: In days 1,2 and 8 we will use Toyata Alphard(8 seats) and during the days 3,4,5,6 and 7 we will use Toyota Land Cruisers(off road cars) for the tour.

Food: Three meals a day which includes: traditional Mongolian cuisines(European and Asian meals always available and if you are meat lover then there will be a beef and lamb meet in daily menu, if you are a vegetarian then no worries as well. We have a special menu too), fruits, cookies, juice and drinking water will always be available during the trip.

Accommodation: In days 1,2 and 8 there will be a hotel rooms and in days 3,4,5,6 and 7 you will be staying at traditional Mongolian Ger(yurt).

Hotel: 3* or 4* hotels

Note that: there will be a WiFi access in days 1,2 and 8. And in other days connection with the 21st century will be very poor (no internet access).

We will provide: Warm sleeping bags, mattresses, blankets, first aid kit, chairs and tables and local sim cards if needed.

What to bring: Water and wind proof jackets, sunglasses, good hiking boots, any personal items if needed, gloves (you will need it during the horse riding), small back pack, binoculars( there will be a lot of wild animals in the mountains so you can see/watch them from distance), torchlight and so on.

  • Experienced tour guides, cook and drivers will always accompany you during all the trip days.
