Autumn Korea Hikes at Seoraksan Nature Park 2025

🍁 Seoraksan Nature Park – A Jewel of Korea’s Natural Heritage

Nestled in the northeastern corner of South Korea near the picturesque coastal city of Sokcho, Seoraksan National Park (설악산국립공원) is a UNESCO-designated Biosphere Reserve and one of the country’s most treasured natural wonders.

🌄 Breathtaking Landscapes in Autumn Glory

Every autumn, Seoraksan transforms into a mesmerizing palette of crimson, gold, and orange as its forests put on a spectacular foliage display. From late October to early November, hikers are treated to a visual feast where jagged granite peaks pierce the skies and valleys are ablaze with fiery autumn leaves.

🏔️ Iconic Hiking Trails

The park offers trails suitable for all levels—from gentle walks through ancient pine forests and serene waterfalls to demanding summit climbs for the adventurous. Some of the highlights include:

  • 🪨 Ulsanbawi Rock (울산바위)
A massive six-peaked granite outcrop offering 360-degree views over Sokcho and the East Sea. Though the climb involves a steep stair ascent, the reward at the top is simply unforgettable.
  • 🌊 Biryong Waterfall (비룡폭포)
A peaceful and refreshing trail leads to a graceful waterfall cascading between narrow cliffs—perfect for a mid-day nature break and photography.
  • ⛰️ Daecheongbong Peak (대청봉, 1,708m)
The park’s highest accessible summit and the third-highest mountain in South Korea, offering panoramic views of the entire Taebaek mountain range. The challenging hike to the summit is a rite of passage for serious trekkers.

🌿 Ecological & Cultural Significance

Seoraksan is home to over 1,500 plant species and 1,000 animal species, including endangered Korean goral and Asiatic black bears. It also hosts ancient Buddhist temples like Sinheungsa Temple, adding a layer of cultural depth to the natural experience.

📸 A Photographer’s Paradise

From sunrise over misty ridgelines to golden maple leaves fluttering against dramatic rock cliffs, every moment in Seoraksan is picture-perfect. Whether you’re capturing the grandeur of the mountains or the serenity of temple paths, this park offers endless inspiration.
