Detailed Trek & Climbing Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in Leh
Drive Distance: Airport Transfer
Altitude: 3,500m
Accommodation: Hotel in Leh
Upon arrival at Leh Airport, you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is reserved for acclimatization to the high altitude. Leh is situated at over 3,500 meters, so proper rest and hydration are essential to help your body adjust comfortably. Overnight stay in Leh.
Day 2 – Acclimatization Day in Leh
Altitude: 3,500m
Accommodation: Hotel in Leh
Today is dedicated to acclimatization, an important step before heading into the mountains. You may explore the local markets, monasteries, and cultural landmarks around Leh while taking it easy. This gradual exposure to the altitude helps prepare your body for the upcoming trek and climb. Overnight stay in Leh.
Day 3 – Drive from Leh to Chilling & Trek to Skiu
Drive Distance: 65 km
Trek Distance: 9 km
Altitude: 3,400m
Accommodation: Guesthouse/Camp at Skiu
After breakfast, drive to Chilling, the starting point of the trek. Begin trekking through beautiful landscapes, crossing rivers and passing traditional villages as you make your way toward Skiu. The trail offers stunning views of the rugged Ladakhi terrain and the Markha Valley. Overnight stay at Skiu.
Day 4 – Trek from Skiu to Markha
Trek Distance: 20 km
Altitude: 3,700m
Accommodation: Camp/Guesthouse at Markha
Today’s trek follows the Markha River through narrow valleys, willow groves, and charming Ladakhi settlements. Along the route, enjoy scenic mountain views, ancient monasteries, and several river crossings. Arrive at the picturesque village of Markha for an overnight stay.
Day 5 – Trek from Markha to Hangkar
Trek Distance: 12 km
Altitude: 4,000m
Accommodation: Camp at Hangkar
The trail gradually ascends through open landscapes and traditional villages. As you gain altitude, the views become increasingly dramatic with snow-capped peaks dominating the horizon. Reach Hangkar, one of the highest settlements in the valley, and rest for the night.
Day 6 – Trek from Hangkar to Nimaling
Trek Distance: 10 km
Altitude: 4,700m
Accommodation: Camp at Nimaling
Continue trekking towards the breathtaking Nimaling Plateau, one of the most scenic campsites in Ladakh. Surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks and vast open meadows, this campsite offers incredible panoramic views and a true high-altitude wilderness experience. Overnight stay at Nimaling.
Day 7 – Trek to Kang Yatse Base Camp
Trek Distance: 5 km
Altitude: 5,100m
Accommodation: Camp at Base Camp
A shorter but steeper trekking day takes you to Kang Yatse Base Camp. The trail climbs steadily over rocky terrain with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. Upon arrival, settle into camp and prepare for the upcoming summit attempt.
Day 8 – Rest & Acclimatization at Base Camp
Altitude: 5,100m
Accommodation: Camp at Base Camp
This day is reserved for rest and acclimatization before the summit climb. Participants will undergo basic mountaineering training and gear familiarization, including the use of crampons, ropes, harnesses, and ice axes. Final summit preparations and safety briefings will also be conducted.
Day 9 – Summit Day: Kang Yatse II Summit & Return to Base Camp
Trek Distance: 12–14 km (Round Trip)
Summit Altitude: 6,250m
Accommodation: Camp at Base Camp
The summit push begins around midnight or early morning to take advantage of stable snow conditions. Ascend gradually across glaciers and snow slopes under the guidance of the expedition team. Reaching the summit rewards climbers with breathtaking panoramic views of the Zanskar and Karakoram ranges. After spending time at the summit, descend carefully back to base camp for overnight rest.
Day 10 – Trek to Chokdo via Nimaling & Drive to Leh
Trek Distance: 15 km
Drive Distance: 60 km
Altitude: 3,500m
Accommodation: Hotel in Leh
Begin the descent from base camp, trekking back through Nimaling and crossing Kongmaru La Pass before descending to Chokdo. Upon arrival, board the vehicle for the drive back to Leh. Celebrate the successful completion of the expedition and enjoy a comfortable overnight stay in Leh.
