DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 01: Arrival in Leh

Altitude: 3,500 m / 11,500 ft
Arrive at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport and Group transfer to the hotel. Rest and hydrate to allow your body to acclimatize to Ladakh’s high altitude. Evening walk around Leh Market (optional).
Overnight in Leh.


Day 02: Acclimatization Day – Leh Local Exploration

A mandatory acclimatization day to adapt to the thin air.
Optional sightseeing:

  • Shey Palace

  • Thiksey Monastery

  • Hemis Monastery

Optional Activity: Easy downhill cycling experience around Leh (additional cost).
Overnight in Leh.


Day 03: Drive Leh ➝ Skiu | Trek to Sara

Altitudes:

  • Skiu: 3,400 m / 11,150 ft

  • Sara: 3,600 m / 11,800 ft

Drive: 70 km | 2–3 hrs
Trek: 11 km | 5–6 hrs

Drive through the scenic route of Chilling and the confluence of Indus–Zanskar. Begin trekking from Skiu along the Markha River, passing barley fields, traditional Ladakhi homes, and serene landscapes.
Overnight at campsite/homestay in Sara.


Day 04: Trek Sara ➝ Markha

Altitude: 3,700 m / 12,200 ft
Distance: 10 km | 5–6 hrs

A scenic trek along the Markha River, crossing wooden bridges and walking past ancient stupas and mani walls. Markha is the largest village in the valley with a few homestays and tea houses.
Overnight in Markha.


Day 05: Trek Markha ➝ Hankar

Altitude: 4,100 m / 13,400 ft
Distance: 13 km | 7–8 hrs

The trail begins to ascend with beautiful views of Kang Yatse Peak. Pass by the old monastery and ruins of the Markha Fort before entering the wide, open landscapes leading to Hankar.
Overnight in Hankar.


Day 06: Trek Hankar ➝ Nimaling

Altitude: 4,800 m / 15,800 ft
Distance: 12 km | 7–8 hrs

One of the most stunning days of the trek. The trail gradually climbs to Nimaling—a vast high-altitude meadow with incredible views of Kang Yatse massif.
Overnight at Nimaling campsite.


Day 07: Trek Nimaling ➝ Chokdo via Kongmaru La | Drive to Leh

Altitudes:

  • Kongmaru La Pass: 5,200 m / 17,300 ft

  • Chokdo: 3,900 m / 12,900 ft

Trek: 13 km | 7–8 hrs
Drive to Leh: 60 km | 3 hrs

Early morning ascent to Kongmaru La, the highest point of the trek. Enjoy breathtaking views of Ladakh and Karakoram ranges. Steep descent to Chokdo village where the vehicle awaits.
Transfer back to Leh. Overnight stay.


Day 08: Departure from Leh

Group Transfer to the airport for your onward journey.
Trip ends with beautiful memories of Ladakh’s most iconic trekking adventure.

FORCE MAJEURE

  • SGTREK or its Local Partner shall not be held liable or responsible for any failure to perform its obligations, or for delays, changes, or cancellations caused by circumstances beyond its reasonable control.
  • Such circumstances include but are not limited to: extreme weather conditions, natural disasters, flight disruptions, government restrictions, strikes, political unrest, pandemics, or other unforeseen events.
  • In the event of Force Majeure, no refunds or compensation will be provided, and any additional expenses arising will be the responsibility of the customer.

Alternative Trekking/Tour Arrangements

  • Should customers choose to undertake an alternative trek or tour due to Force Majeure / Political or civil Unrest / Cancellations or Itinerary Changes, the cost of the new trek/tour must be paid additionally.

Customer Responsibility

  • All additional expenses resulting from Force Majeure / Political or civil Unrest / Flight delays, cancellations, accommodation, meals, or alternative arrangements will be the sole responsibility of the customer.
  • Customers are strongly advised to secure a comprehensive travel insurance policy that covers flight cancellations, delays, emergency evacuations, and trip cancellations.

 Important Note: While SGTREK will provide every possible assistance to minimize inconvenience, circumstances beyond our control (such as weather, airline operations, or Force Majeure events) are not included in the trek package. All decisions will be made with customer safety as the top priority.

Insulation Layers

  • Waterproof & windproof jacket (Gore-Tex or similar)
  • Waterproof trekking pants
  • Softshell trekking pants (2 pairs)

Trekking Bottoms

  • Quick-dry trekking pants
  • Optional: Shorts for lower altitudes

Innerwear

  • Comfortable underwear (4–6 pairs)
  • Sports bra (for women)

2. HEADGEAR & HANDWEAR

  • Waterproof outer gloves (insulated for high altitude)

  • Trekking boots (ankle support recommended; well broken-in)
