Scaling South Koreas Tallest Peak: Hiking Hallasan

Jeju Island, located in South Korea, is renowned for its picturesque beaches. However, it is also a popular destination for hikers due to its breathtaking ocean views and well-maintained trekking paths. Whether you’re hiking up Hallasan Mountain or exploring the coastal trails, the island offers a plethora of facilities to satisfy your hiking needs.

In the local dialect, “Olle” originally referred to the narrow path between the street and one’s doorstep. Jeju Olle-gil, a series of walking trails that stretch around the entire coast of the island, is one of the many attractions and activities that Jeju has to offer. These trails take you through various landscapes, including small villages, beaches, farms, and forests, providing a unique opportunity to soak in the beauty of Jeju and the island’s culture.

Hallasan-MountainJeju Island is a hiker’s paradise, with its stunning scenery and well-maintained trails. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a beginner, there’s something for everyone on this island. So, pack your bags and get ready to explore the natural wonders of Jeju Island.

There is currently a total of 26 routes, consisting of 21 main routes and five sub-routes. Each course differs in length and difficulty.

Hallasan Dullegil Eco Trail 

The Hallasan Mountain’s Dullegil Eco-trail is a breathtaking 70.8-kilometer path that winds through the stunning Hallasan National Park. The trail sits between 600 and 800 meters above sea level and wraps around the southern side of the mountain. Comprised of nine sections, this trail is a popular destination for visitors from all over the world.

DongbaekDongsan Forest (Gotjawal)

The Gotjawal Forest is a unique subtropical forest that formed naturally on a lava region. It covers the rocky area of ʻaʻā on Jeju Island, off the southwestern coast of Korea. Due to its geographical features, the region remains largely undisturbed by people. The Meonmulkkak Wetland in the Forest was designated as a Wetlands Conservation Area by the Ministry of Environment and Ramsar Wetlands. The Dongbaek-Dongsan contains approximately 100 wetlands, making it a must-see destination for nature lovers.

Gapmajang Trail Path

The Gammajang-gil is a 20km hiking trail that connects Saseumi Oreum, Ttarabi Oreum, the boundary line of the ranch called jatseong, and cedar and cypress forests. The trail course starts from the Jeongseok Airport Parking Lot and leads to Flower Plaza, Kkotmeoche, Haenggimeoche, Ttarabi Oreum, jatseong, and Keunsaseumi Oreum, then returns to the origin. This path, where horses used to roam, was also used as a racing course for the Jeju International Trail Running Competition.

This trip is suitable for anyone who is fit to hike for 5-6 hours daily. The highest altitude is 1950m Hallasan peak. Trails are well maintained, making it a safe and enjoyable experience for all hikers.

D1 – Arrive in Jeju (D)

  • When Tourist arrive early, we go Yongduam Rock which looks like Dragon head and one of the Symbolic places in Jeju, If Time available, Visiting Mysterious Road and Aewol Coast Road.
  • Dinner for Seafood (Abalone, Shellfish, Sea snail, etc.) stew (Other menus are also available upon request)

D2 – Hallasan Dulle-gil Eco-trail (Hiking start at Donnaeko) / total 16.7km (B/L/D)

  • Hallasan Dulle-gil Eco-trail (Hiking start about 9:00 at Donnaeko) / total 16.7km
  • Breakfast: Hotel buffet or Korean Cuisine
  • Hotel Pickup at 08:30
  • Cheona Forest Path (8.7km / 3 hrs)
  • Lunch: Lunch Box (Customers requested food or Gimbap with Cup noodle)
  • Dol Oreum Path (8km / 2.2 hrs)
  • Dinner: Grilled cutlassfish as a whole (중문).

D3 – Olle trekking Course “No. 7” (17.6km, 6 hrs) (B/L/D)

  • Can reach the peak around 13:00
  • 7km down Hiking till get to the Gwaneumsa Parking lot (Can be there around 17:00)
  • Dinner: Black Pork BBQ (Other menus are also available upon request)

D5 – Dongbaek Forest, Manjanggul Cave & Seongsan Sunrise Peak (B/L/D)
